ShoeBoxes for Kids You Can Meet on a Family Mission Trip to Pueblo Pintado, New Mexico
It is an INCREDIBLE Fall Day in Atlanta but wanted to drop you a note to invite you in joining us in getting shoe boxes for those beautiful Navajo Children we Serve Each Year. We are looking also for a corporate sponsor who might be willing to cover the shipping costs/Typically approx. $500.
We have about 200 children and another 150 teenagers who need shoeboxes this year. The boxes that we always run short of are the ones for the teenage boys and younger boys.
Here are some tips/ideas for our shoeboxes.
Wrap lid and box separately
The small shoe box size tupperware boxes with attached lids make awesome boxes for the kids and they can keep their stuff in them after Christmas
Provide $5.00 for your box to cover shipping
Put child’s name and grade on outside of box if known. If not known, put what gender and appropriate age child should be.
Drop box off at Sugarloaf UMC in missions room by coffee bar BEFORE December 8th
We are in need of boxes for teenage kids this year who tend to get left out of the Christmas season and we are trying desperately to reach them and let them know that God is where they need to find their solitude-not drugs and alcohol.
Suggestions for box: socks, gloves, hair accessories, card games, school supplies, candy (no chocolate), small hand games, small balls, small bible, diary/journal, note cards, self addressed stamped envelopes so children can correspond with you, matchbox cars, action figures, small electronic games, puzzles, small arts and crafts, gift cards to WalMart or online store such as Amazon, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, fingernail polish, things from $5 below, – How about throwing in a t-shirt or hat from your favorite college/NFL/NBA team? (It’s always cool to see the kids wearing them when we go out in the summer) It doesn’t cost more than $20 to put a great box together.
What NOT to put in box: things with snakes, monsters, dragons, witchcraft, gangs,
If you can’t do a shoebox but would like to contribute, financial donations are GREATLY appreciated. If we have any funds left over after filling empty boxes and shipping, we will purchase gift cards for those out on the reservation who help make our trip possible each year…Custodian, kitchen, staff at Tse Yi Gai High School and some of the local people who help while we are there.
Above all else, we need your prayers as this is a major feat to get these all done and get them off to the children before they leave for Christmas break. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! for your help and your prayer support!
Towards the first week of December we will have a wrapping part for which we still send out notice and hope you can join us. It is great for people off all ages and a lot of fun.
Tomorrow is a BIG Football Day. I pray your team wins by 100 points!!!!
